Aussie boy's thoughts

Brutal, entertaining, exciting and plausibly hilarious, RoboCop is an excellent sci-fi/action film definitely suited for Terminator fans. Except the thing is, this classic favourite is better than The Terminator in every way you can possibly think of. Set in the future, this film focuses on improved technology and a theory for the future police force.

James Cameron’s Terminator was only released a few years before this movie, and exactly similar to the main idea of this movie, it’s a cyborg action movie, with the title obviously exposing the fact that the cyborg is a robotic assassin from the future. You can still guess what the title RoboCop might offer: Robot + Cop. And it’s very similar to The Terminator, except the cyborg is a cop with intentions towards peace in the city. It’s not complex, but it works well, it’s extremely entertaining and riveting.

Worth the solid R/18 ratings, the violence is extremely bloody and suits the definition of the term “over-the-top”, jumping straight over the 6-meter wall when other milder 80s movies are struggling to climb to the top. It’s extremely entertaining to watch this heroic cyborg up against the bad guys and all the crimes in the city. Surprisingly, there’s also some sometimes dark, but unbelievably effective humour.
