IS IT FOLLOWS TOO MUCH OF A SEX-THEMED HORROR STORY FOR HORROR FANS?
Despite the whole plot revolving all around sex, It follows is a really clever, unique and at times, a scary horror movie. Teen audiences and up will enjoy this outstanding story.

After sleeping with her new boyfriend, a young woman discovers that she is being followed by a supernatural being who will remain behind her until following the next person she has sex with.

Instead of freaky-looking monsters, strange phone calls or bloody horror-movie gore, David Robert Mitchell’s original premise is about sex. Obviously, the sexual content in movies pushes the mature rating to higher levels, making It Follows best for teens and up, but this concept is unique, unpredictable and executes a lot of decent scares. Horror movies are all for the scares, right?
Mitchell’s concept is utterly simple, but it’s extremely original and forms a great psychological idea. It’s about a young woman who is stalked by a supernatural being after sleeping with her boyfriend. The fact that this supernatural threat can be passed on to other people through intercourse makes it especially unique and very gripping. Maika Monroe, the leading actress, is so genuine in her character, she makes you feel like you’re under threat, too.
The actual supernatural beings who can only be seen by the victims are absolutely terrifying when they appear, especially when it takes the form of the giant man. It Follows doesn’t rely on violence for scares, but the violent blood spray effects are unfortunately very unrealistic when accompanying shootings. Mitchell’s film overall is extremely clever and should be seen by all horror fans.
