Aussie boy's thoughts
Dolemite may be coarse, rude, crude and vulgar, but Eddie Murphy just steals the show in an entertaining presentation of Rudy Ray Moore’s comedy acts and filmmaking. This biographical comedy-drama leads its way with an upbeat hopeful attitude that you may have witnessed enough of in positive-themed kids’ drama movies, but it’s just even more delightful when it’s a child-unfriendly vulgar film demonstrating you can achieve your dreams when you work hard and do put in the effort.
Dolemite is My Name depicts Rudy Ray Moore’s struggles with executing his doughy character, Dolemite. This film is actually based on his true story of being a funny rhyming-rap comedian, becoming a hit and doing his own film titled ‘Dolemite’, and you’ll probably even want to see that after this film, despite what the critics state. This movie basically just says “fuck the critics” and follows through with determination.
Rudy is a highly determined and committed true character who’s executed absolutely flawlessly by show-stealing Eddie Murphy. He, the other leading cast members, and even noticeably the extras are staggering. This movie is an example of why performances, big and little, can truly impact the overall result. Dolemite is My Name’s a comedy that’ll also make you laugh, entertain you and just gives you an upbeat attitude.
