Crank movie review - Aussieboyreviews

WILL AUDIENCES FIND MINDLESS ACTION FUN IN CRANK?

This movie without a doubt is as mindless and fun as action movies can get, although it’s not the most memorable and intelligent one. Crank is very fast-paced, over-the-top, ridiculously hilarious and violent, set to really pump your adrenaline.

Storyline

An assassin must keep his adrenaline high when he awakens to learn his enemy has injected him with a poison where if his heart rate is low, he will die.

Aussie boy's thoughts

Crank easily makes for definitely not one of the greatest, but one of the fastest action movies you’ll ever see in cinema. It’s very pacy mainly for the fact that Jason Statham’s character is always on his feet which makes the film very entertaining and constantly distracting to watch. Here, he plays an assassin who is injected with a poison by his enemy, leading him to die if his heart rate gets too low.

Again, this action movie is moving around from the opening shot. Neveldine and Taylorthe, the writers and directors of this movie, always use jolty/sometimes nauseating camerawork to capture each quick movement which definitely makes it even speedier and more of your typical action movie. But since it’s moving from the very start without ending until the credits begin rolling, they can also settle us into the ‘story’ in a very clever way.

Obviously, this is by teaching us what’s going on as the action plays out, beginning with Statham finding and playing a recording left by his rival. As well as being action-packed and rapid, it can also be hilarious at times, often in mindlessly over-the-top ways, including characters having sex in public and other jokes that are surprisingly good. There’s only a few sustained scenes of slow dialogue between characters that gives us a break from all the action, but honestly, Crank is a fun, yet forgettable action movie.
