Cop Out movie review - Aussieboyreviews

IS COP OUT ANYTHING MORE THAN JUST A REGULAR BUDDY COMEDY?

What do you honestly expect? It’s entertaining, extremely funny at times, but it’s typical and completely forgettable. Cop Out is a crime-action comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as two partners trying to track down a valuable card.

Storyline

While on suspension, NYPD detective Jimmy’s highly valuable baseball card is stolen by a memorabilia-obsessed gangster when he tries to sell the card in order to pay for his daughter’s expensive wedding. He then recruits his partner Paul to track down the robber and get the card back.

Aussie boy's thoughts

You know what? Screw all the somewhat seriousness of looking at this kind of subject matter and what the really big amounts of rational fun look like. This is just another mindless buddy comedy that to say the most, is enjoyable. It’s not an out-of-the-blue funny kind of film and it’s not anything memorable, but is it entertaining? Yes. Is it funny? It certainly does have its moments. It’s basically a homage to 48 Hrs. and Lethal Weapon, although most won’t find it anywhere near as enjoyable.

The film features Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as two police detectives currently on suspension as they try to track down a gangster who is obsessed with memorabilia and stole Willis’ character’s highly valuable baseball card. The plot is completely predictable; the two are teamed up throughout the film as they seem to be running around and driving everywhere on their little mission. While often entertaining, Cop Out is completely and probably one of the most forgettable comedies of all time. Some of the jokes in it are really good and do give you a chuckle, but that doesn’t take away the emptiness of the film. These kinds of movies could at least give us a movie experience to remember, but they just don’t.

Willis and Morgan are definitely the ones who make this a guilty-pleasure kind of buddy-cops action-comedy. They both deliver funny lines in the middle of the plot’s situations, but as everything in this movie is instantly forgettable, while they’re fun and they work well together, you’re not gonna remember them or wanna see them paired together in those roles again.
