American Pie movie review - Aussieboyreviews
IS AMERICAN PIE ANYTHING MORE THAN A RAUNCHY TEEN SEX COMEDY?
American Pie; a sex comedy that’s naughty, raunchy, horny and… unexpectedly hopeful as well. If you can handle 90 minutes of sex and crass humour, with a decent story to tell, this entertaining movie is for you.
Storyline
Deciding to finally take action, four teenage boys make a pact to each lose their virginity by the night of prom.

Aussie boy's thoughts
Maybe not the naughtiest, raunchiest and horniest teenage sex-comedy of all time, but definitely the most optimistic. Let’s be honest, it’s difficult to have high expectations for what appears to just be a silly and stupid comedy surrounding teens and sex, and it’s often not worth extended conversations, or more than just saying it’s funny and all, but moving on. This is the case with a lot of these naughty comedies, but not American Pie.
American Pie features four teenage boys who make a pact to each lose their virginity by prom night. To be clear, this movie lives up to its high placement in the raunchy sex comedy genre. It opens with an incredibly awkward scene in which a teenage boy’s parents find him masturbating, to be followed by frequent and crude sex references, as well as plenty of sexual situations and awkwardly sexual fantasies. This is a sex movie! Sex, sex, sex!
Getting on the path of losing their virginity, the main characters develop relationships with attractive girls their age, but American Pie isn’t totally horny about it; the film features multiple dramas in each of the relationships, which makes us root for these teens and ultimately makes for the ending to be more satisfying and hopeful than drunken and stupid. It’s funny, but there’s a serious aspect as well.
This movie requires some pretty good performances to achieve its goal, and all of the actors do a splendid job. Jim’s dad, played very enthusiastically and funnily by Eugene Levy, is definitely worth a mention as an awesome supporting character in this film. All of the jokes, scenes, characters and story are written excellently by screenwriter Adam Herz, and American Pie is an entertaining, but also hopeful teen sex comedy that’s definitely worth watching.
